The company gained prominence after Ball was appointed Chief Time Inspector and established the Ball Railroad Time Service, which eventually covered 75% of the country's rail network and nearly 125,000 miles of railroads across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company remained family-owned until the 1990s when ownership rights were sold. In the early 2000s, Ball relocated its international headquarters to La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, to access skilled watchmakers and Swiss-made movements, and is currently owned by Hong Kong-based Asia Commercial Holdings Ltd.
