History

billerbeck traces its origins to 22 March 1921, when Paul Dültgen and Heinrich Billerbeck founded the Rheinische Daunen-Decken Fabrik Dültgen & Billerbeck in Wuppertal, Germany, producing handmade down quilts. In the 1950s, the company expanded with a branch in Vienna (Reforma-Werke Wien, 1955) and a production facility in Kraichtal-Münzesheim, southern Germany (1956), which later became the headquarters of billerbeck Betten-Union. A Swiss subsidiary was created in 1957, today operating as billerbeck Schweiz AG near Zurich and also marketing products under the Dauny brand. The billerbeck Sleep & Health Foundation was established in 1984 to formalize the company’s long-standing involvement in sleep research, and a Japanese subsidiary, billerbeck K.K., followed in 1986 to open the Asian market. In 2011 the firm received the “Hidden Champions” recognition as a medium-sized global market leader in bedding, and in subsequent years it extended its assortment into mattresses and bed frames under the billerbeck Home Collection label.
