Overview

Diamondback Bicycles is a U.S. bicycle brand specializing in mountain bikes, BMX, road bikes, and gravel bikes, originating from a BMX-focused line in the 1970s. It positions itself in the mid-market segment, offering value-oriented performance bikes for trail riding, racing, and recreational use. The brand is noted for innovations like Level Link suspension and early production mountain bikes such as the Ridge Runner.

History

Founded in 1977 as a BMX brand by Western States Imports in Newbury Park, California, Diamondback expanded into mountain bikes in the 1980s with models like the 1982 Ridge Runner, one of the first production mountain bikes. It achieved racing success through Diamondback Racing (DBR) from 1993, including world championships and Olympic medals. Acquired by Derby Cycle Corporation in 1999, sold in 2001, and then by Accell Group before Regent, L.P. purchased it in 2019.
