D.Dornblüth & Sohn
ActiveOverview
D. Dornblüth & Sohn is a luxury watchmaker specializing in hand-crafted mechanical wristwatches produced in limited quantities using traditional manufacturing techniques. The company produces approximately 120-180 pieces annually, positioning itself in the ultra-premium segment of the watch market. Known for developing proprietary in-house movements and adhering to classical Glashütte watchmaking aesthetics, the brand appeals to collectors who value traditional craftsmanship over industrial production.
History
Founded in 1999 by watchmaker Dieter Dornblüth and his son Dirk, the company was established after Dirk presented his father with a self-designed watch on his 60th birthday, reviving a movement design Dieter had conceived in 1959. The company released its first production model in 2002 and expanded its workspace in 2003 and 2005 to accommodate growing demand. In 2012, Dornblüth released the Quintus, featuring their first proprietary in-house movement, marking a significant milestone in the company's development.

The company hand-finishes all movement components including hand-engraving, polishing, and bluing of screws.

Reputation
Dornblüth & Sohn is highly regarded among watch enthusiasts and collectors for its commitment to traditional watchmaking craftsmanship and refusal to adopt modern industrial production methods. The brand is respected for developing proprietary movements and maintaining exceptional finishing standards consistent with classical Glashütte aesthetics. Prices are premium, reflecting the hand-crafted nature and limited production, though some collectors note the brand has lower international visibility compared to established Swiss manufacturers. The company appeals primarily to purists who prioritize heritage watchmaking over brand prestige.
