Eventbrite

Acquired

Overview

Eventbrite is a United States-based event technology company operating the Eventbrite.com platform for event creation, marketing, registration, ticketing, and discovery. It serves organizers ranging from small community and business events to concerts, festivals, classes, and other live experiences, while also functioning as a consumer marketplace for event listings and tickets.

The company is known for its self-service model, which allows organizers to publish free events without platform fees and charge fees on paid-ticket transactions. Its position combines event-management software with ticket distribution and attendee discovery; the business has expanded through international growth and acquisitions in ticketing and music, then shifted to private ownership following its acquisition by Bending Spoons.

History

Eventbrite was founded in 2006 by Julia Hartz, Kevin Hartz, and Renaud Visage as a self-service platform for creating, promoting, discovering, and ticketing live events. It expanded internationally, opening a United Kingdom office in 2012, and acquired Lanyrd and Eventioz in 2013. Eventbrite acquired Ticketscript in 2017 and Ticketfly from Pandora for approximately $200 million that same year, strengthening its music-ticketing business. The company went public on the New York Stock Exchange in September 2018. In 2025, Eventbrite announced an agreement to be acquired by Bending Spoons for approximately $500 million; the transaction was reported as completed in 2026, with Eventbrite delisted.

Reputation

Eventbrite is generally recognized by event professionals and smaller organizers for accessible self-service publishing, integrated registration, ticketing, and basic marketing tools. Its broad event marketplace and mobile check-in capabilities are useful for community, education, business, and independent entertainment events. Criticisms include service and processing fees, variable customer-support experiences, competition from specialized ticketing systems, and limitations for organizers requiring highly customized enterprise workflows. The acquisition by Bending Spoons and resulting ownership change marked a significant shift from its period as a public company.
