History

IJCAI was founded in California in 1969 as a nonprofit corporation dedicated to scientific and educational purposes in artificial intelligence. The organization held biennial conferences in odd-numbered years from 1969 to 2015, establishing itself as the main international forum for AI research. In 2016, IJCAI transitioned to annual conferences to increase accessibility and engagement. Starting in 2018, IJCAI began holding joint conferences with ECAI (European Conference on Artificial Intelligence), and from 2020 onwards also collaborated with PRICAI to promote international collaboration among AI researchers.
