Overview

L'Epée 1839 is a Swiss clockmaker specializing in high-end table clocks, including classic carriage clocks, contemporary designs, and avant-garde horological sculptures. It is the only fully integrated manufacture in Switzerland dedicated to high-end clock production. The brand is known for in-house designed and manufactured pieces featuring complications like retrograde seconds, power reserve indicators, perpetual calendars, tourbillons, and striking mechanisms, with notable collaborations such as with MB&F.

History

Founded in 1839 by Auguste L’Epée and Pierre-Henri Paur in Saint Suzanne, France, initially producing music boxes and watch components. The company expanded into platform escapements and carriage clocks, reaching peak production of 200,000 units annually by 1889, and relocated to Delémont, Swiss Jura. It evolved over 185 years to focus on sophisticated table clocks while maintaining hand-made traditions. Acquired by LVMH in 2024 through its Watches Division.
