Mongoose
ActiveOverview
Mongoose is a brand of bicycles originally developed for BMX racing and freestyle, now offering a range of bikes including mountain, hybrid, kids, and electric models. It holds a position in the entry to mid-level cycling market, distributed primarily through mass retailers. The brand remains notable for its roots in the 1970s BMX revolution and the iconic Motomag wheel.
History
Founded in 1974 by Skip Hess through BMX Products, Inc. in Simi Valley, California, with the Motomag One wheel as its first product. The company expanded rapidly, peaking at 85 employees and 600 frames per day in Chatsworth. Sold to American Group in 1985, it passed through Bell Sports, Brunswick, and Pacific Cycle (acquired by Dorel Industries in 2004, then Pon Holdings in 2021); operations now run from Madison, Wisconsin.

Reputation

Professionals view it as accessible for beginners rather than high-performance riding. The brand maintains nostalgia value in the BMX community but competes with premium specialists.
