History

Panizza was founded in 1879 by Giovanni Panizza and Natale Gamba in Ghiffa on Lake Maggiore. After Panizza retired, Gamba and his descendants managed the company, reaching peak production of 230,000 hats per year and over 200 employees in the late 1950s. The original factory in Ghiffa is now a hat museum, with production moved to Tuscany. Mara Gamba took leadership in 2010, focusing on design updates and new markets like Russia and Paris.¹²
