Collinite was founded in 1936 by Charles H. Collins, a former automotive parts salesman who became dissatisfied with the quality of car care products available on retail shelves. Collins began experimenting with his own formulas using textbooks and basic equipment, eventually developing a line of polishes and waxes with his son Chuck. After Chuck Collins identified Mike Taylor, a school teacher and photographer, as his successor, Taylor spent three decades building a national sales network and resurrecting the company's word-of-mouth reputation. The company continues to operate under the same principles established by its founders, maintaining production in Utica, New York.
