Overview

Liqui Moly GmbH is a German manufacturer of automotive chemicals specializing in oils, lubricants, additives, and vehicle care products. The company offers one of the world's most extensive ranges of automotive chemicals with over 4,000 articles designed for nearly every vehicle globally. Founded on a patented molybdenum disulfide additive technology, Liqui Moly has established itself as a prominent player in the global automotive lubricants and additives market, with particularly strong market presence in Germany and growing international distribution across 120 countries.

History

Liqui Moly was founded in 1957 in Ulm, Germany, based on a patent for molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) production, which became the company's first product and namesake. The company expanded rapidly, establishing its headquarters on Olgastrasse in Ulm within its first year. In 1983, Liqui Moly began supplying consumer and DIY stores across Germany, consolidating its focus on automotive chemicals. In 1987, the company created its distinctive canister design for motor oils, which became central to its brand identity. On January 1, 2018, Liqui Moly was acquired by the Würth Group, which purchased the remaining shares from previous majority holder and CEO Ernst Prost.
